ABOUT THE PROJECT
Artist and experimental filmmaker Abinadi Meza’s Vein of Sky is a sound installation generated from environmental data such as air temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, light, and other dynamic features of the local Houston climate. These conditions are rendered into sounds such as bleeps, roars, whirrs, blips, hisses, cracks, and shuffles that are triggered by the presence of a listener. The work occupies the interior of ReFRAME x FRAME, a pavilion designed by professors and students in the University of Houston Graduate Design/Build Studio of the Hines College of Architecture, collaborating with the Graphic Communications Program in the School of Art. ReFRAME x FRAME demonstrates principles of sustainable design and construction that can be deployed in disaster relief settings. Meza’s installation responds to this theme and purpose, while generating new relationships between listeners and their environment.
